Clock with Grandparents’ Photos at Different Life Stages
There’s no better way to give your grandparents a sentimental gift that can be put on display at all times other than a clock. However, the clock we have in mind is unlike any other. This one has photos of your grandparents at various life stages in place of numbers. It’s a fun project that can bring so much happiness and memories back to your grandparents.
Here’s what you’ll need:
- A circular piece of sturdy wood
- Acrylic paint
- 12 photos of your grandparents
- An all-in-one printer
- Double-sided adhesive tape
As it dries, start scanning the 12 pictures, so you can print the copies that you’ll cut out. Make sure that the cut-outs can fit on the clock.
Once the paint has dried completely, dot the places where the clock numbers would usually be. Then, start spraying the back of each photo with glue and place it on the dot. You can place them in chronological order or in whichever order you think is best.
Give the photos a couple of minutes to stick completely to the clock. Afterward, apply the double-sided adhesive tape to the back of the clock, then stick it on a wall where your grandparents will be able to see and appreciate it.
Things to Paint for Grandparents – DIY Story Album
If there’s one thing that all our grandparents have in common, it’s their joy to tell us stories from when they were younger. These stories live in our grandparents’ memories and through our imagination. Then, how wonderful would it be to try and portray these stories visually?
A story album can be a collection of some of our grandparents’ most joyful experiences. To create this gift, you’ll need:
- A stack of A4 drawing paper
- Cover paper
- Cardboard for the album covers
- A thick needle and thread
- A pushpin
- Paint, preferably acrylic
You’ll start out by making the album, and then you’ll paint the stories.
Making the Album
Start by folding the stack of paper in half, length-wise. Then, draw evenly-spaced lines across the spine of the folded stack.
Unfold the paper, and with a pushpin, push through the lines you drew on the spine. Then, push the thread through the needle until you can tie a knot at the end, making it double-threaded.
Take the unfolded stack of paper and push the needle and thread from the outside through the first hole. The knot will get stuck at the spine of the album, which will allow you to push the needle from the inside through the second hole.
Continue going in and out of the third and fourth hole, then create another knot and cut the remaining thread. Fold the sketchbook and trim the paper if it’s slightly uneven.
Next, place the sketchbook on the cardboard and trace it twice to make the front and back cover. Make sure to measure a quarter an inch from above. Remove the sketchbook and cut the cardboard along the tracing.
From the remaining cardboard, cut out the spine of the album. It’ll be the same height as the cover while the width will be the same as the sketchbook’s width.
Repeat the process using the pieces of cover cardboard closely to trace the cover paper, adding one and a half inches to the measurements. Then, cut the cover paper.
Glue the cardboard to the cover paper, folding and gluing the edges as well.
When it’s dry, place the sketchbook inside the cover, and glue the first and last pages to each side of the cover.
Painting the Story
Once the album has had time to dry, you can start painting.
Start by painting the stories inside of the sketchbook, giving every page time to dry. Afterward, paint the front and back of the covers, and add a couple of words to show what this gift is all about. You can even draw a portrait of your grandparents on the front cover.

Not to mention that it’ll be much more meaningful than a generic, ready-made coaster as it’ll have a portrait of your grandparents on their wedding day.
- Blank ceramic coaster
- Acrylic paint
First, wear gloves and clean the ceramic coaster. The coaster can be white or marbled. What’s important is that it doesn’t have any other colors. Next, paint your grandparent’s portrait on the coaster.
The following step is the one that takes the longest. Leave the coaster out to dry for at least three weeks. It’s crucial that the paint dries completely before you move on to the next steps.
After the paint has dried, clean the coaster wearing gloves. Then, place the coaster on an elevated surface, so you can pour the resin over it. This step should be done in a well-ventilated area.
Allow the coaster to dry all the way. Then, it’s ready to be gifted.

Painted Portrait on Burlap Canvas
- Back coated with clear gesso
- Pine wood frame
- Stapled on back
Grandmas have had the fortune to become mothers twice. You can give her painted portraits of her carrying her children and grandchildren on burlap canvas to remind her of this bliss, as well as add to her decor.
Here’s everything you’ll need:
Start out by taking and tracing the measurements needed for the burlap canvas to fit in the photo frame. You should add about two to three inches on each side.
Then, iron the canvas to remove any creases. Now, you can paint the portrait of your grandma and her children, grandchildren, or both.
Spread glue all over the brown craft paper, then put it on the white foam. As it dries, spread glue on the other side of the brown paper and place the burlap painting on it.
Fold the edges of the burlap around the white foam, then glue them to the surface. You’ll need to make sure that the glue dries well, so use binder clips to hold the edges in place.
After it dries well, you can put it in the frame and give it to your grandma.
