About Ledgebay
Welcome to Ledgebay. We make paint by number kits for adults, and we have some fairly firm opinions about what that ought to mean.
Most kits in this category are the same unbranded canvas sold under a dozen different names. The image is usually a stock photograph nobody holds the rights to. The canvas is folded flat into an envelope, so it arrives with creases through the picture that never come out. The paints have been sitting in loosely sealed pots long enough to skin over. We built this business around not doing any of that.
The artwork is original, and the artists are paid
Every one of our thirty-nine designs is a painting by a working artist. We license the original artwork from them and pay a commission on every kit we sell.
That is the part we are proudest of, and it is why the catalog looks the way it does: Americana, wildlife, cabins, lakes and florals, painted by people who paint those things properly. It is also why you will not find reproductions of famous paintings or trend-chasing abstracts here. We would rather sell you a lake at dusk that somebody actually painted.
What comes in the box
Four details that sound minor and are the whole difference:
- The canvas ships rolled in a tube, never folded. It arrives flat. This is the single thing our customers mention most often, usually by comparing it to a creased one they were sent by somebody else.
- The paints are vacuum-sealed. A kit that has been in a cupboard since last Christmas opens fresh.
- There is an 11 x 17 reference print, large enough to actually work from, rather than a thumbnail on the packaging.
- Brushes in a range of sizes, so the broad areas and the small sections each get the right tool.
Stock designs come at 12 x 16 framed, 16 x 20 framed, and 16 x 20 unframed. The framed versions arrive stretched, ready to hang, and include a small easel. Every design also has a matching replacement paint set, because on a large canvas the color filling the sky is always the one that runs out first.
Canvases made from your own photographs
Alongside the licensed designs, we turn customers' own photographs into numbered canvases. A childhood house. A dog that has gone. A wedding photograph, or a view from a trip somebody has not stopped talking about since.
These are printed in the United States, at 12 x 16, 16 x 20 or 18 x 24, framed or unframed. We are straightforward about the result: it will look like a painting of your photograph, not a copy of it. That is exactly why people frame them. You can see what that looks like on our custom paint by numbers page.
A veteran-owned business
I served, and Ledgebay is a veteran-owned business. It is a small operation rather than a large one, which is mostly a good thing: it means the person deciding which artwork to license and how the box gets packed is the same person writing this.
Where we ship
Within the United States only. We would rather say that plainly here than have somebody discover it at checkout.
Come and show us what you painted
Painting a canvas is a solitary sort of pleasure, and finishing one is not. Customers send us photographs of theirs, and we collect them in the customer gallery, which is worth a look if you are deciding between designs and want to see how they turn out in a real room rather than a product shot.
There is also a Ledgebay group on Facebook, where people post work in progress and ask each other questions.
If this is your first kit, the beginner's guide covers what actually happens in the first hour, and the full range is here.
Thank you for stopping by.
