Rocky Mountain Campsite

Rocky Mountain Campsite is a paint by numbers kit for adults, taken from Abraham Hunter's painting of a lit tent and a canoe on a mountain lake.

A canvas wall tent stands open on the shore with a lantern burning inside and a fire going in front of it. A canoe is drawn up on the gravel at the water's edge. The lake runs back between steep walls to a snow-covered peak, larches and autumn scrub glow orange along the right bank, and the firelight lays a broken orange line across the water against the last of the sunset.

Choosing a size

The framed 12x16 and framed 16x20 arrive pre-stretched on a wooden frame, ready to hang the moment you put the brush down. No mounting, no separate frame to buy. The unframed 16x20 gives you the same canvas and the same paints for less. It is trimmed close to the printed edge, so it suits taping or mounting to a board rather than stretching over your own frame.

Will I be able to see the numbers?

The 16x20 is the easier of the two sizes on the eyes, and the 11" x 17" printout means you can check a section without leaning over the canvas. Most people paint with a lamp pulled close and reading glasses on. For the finest sections a magnifier helps, and plenty of our customers keep one on the table.

Who it suits

Worth knowing before you choose it: this design carries a lot of gray and black in the rock walls and the foreground, and one reviewer who owns four of our kits called it the least entertaining of them to paint for that reason, while also saying it is the one most likely to end up on the wall. The reward is concentrated in the tent, the fire and the autumn trees. If you would rather the color be spread across the whole canvas, pick Away From it All instead.
