We do not make a flag kit, and there are no eagles-and-stars designs in the range. If that is what you are looking for, this is the wrong catalog and it is better to say so now.
What we do have is the other kind of American picture: the farm at dusk, the lighthouse on the headland, the cabin above the lake, the dune path at sunrise. It is a long tradition in American painting, and it is what most people are actually after when they go looking for something patriotic to hang. Here are the six worth knowing.
Six Americana designs
The Road Home
Kim Norlien's farmhouse and red barn at the end of a summer day. A dirt track runs up the middle toward a white farmhouse with the downstairs windows already lit. A big red barn on a stone foundation stands across the yard beside a silo and a windmill, and the whole of it comes back off the surface of the pond. Under the trees a child is on a tire swing with a yellow dog running underneath, and the fenceline is crowded with wildflowers.
Middling difficulty and a popular first canvas. The barn, the road and the sky are large straightforward areas; the windmill, the fenceline and the figure on the swing are the fine work.
Guiding Light
Norlien again, this time a lighthouse on a sheer rock headland above a great lake, with a bald eagle turning on the air just off the cliff and a white birch already into its autumn color. A small campfire burns on the rocks at the waterline.
A good middle-of-the-road kit and a common first choice. Customers single this one out for having clear lines and numbers that are easy to read. The cloud bank and water are broad and forgiving; the lighthouse railings and the eagle are the detail.
Away From it All
Hayden Lambson's log cabin on a rocky point above a northern lake, half hidden by birch and aspen turned gold, with a stream spilling over mossy granite in the foreground and two ducks in the shallows.
One of the more forgiving kits in the range and a reasonable first canvas. The sky, water and rock face go in as large comfortable areas — the rock reads as complicated because of the moss and shadow but is laid out as a handful of big shapes. The autumn foliage is where the small sections are.
Rocky Mountain Campsite
Abraham Hunter's lit wall tent and canoe on a mountain lake, with a fire going on the gravel, larches glowing orange along the bank and the firelight laying a broken line across the water.
Worth knowing before you choose it: this design carries a lot of gray and black in the rock walls and foreground. One reviewer who owns four of our kits called it the least entertaining to paint for that reason, while also saying it is the one most likely to end up on the wall. The reward is concentrated in the tent, the fire and the autumn trees. If you would rather the color were spread across the whole canvas, take Away From it All instead.
Morning Ride

One of our best-rated designs and one of the more demanding. A reviewer puts it well — not for the faint of heart, a lot of small straight lines, keep your paint thin. The sky and sand are broad and lovely, and then there are the fence rails and the grass. Budget nearer 25 hours than 15.
Mountain Paradise

A good first canvas despite how much is in it. The lake, sky and mountain face are large and calm. It is also the design customers single out for legibility — one reviewer describes the lines and numbers as clear enough to read without reading glasses at all. If eyesight is the thing making you hesitate, start here.
How to choose between them
Ignore the subject for a moment and ask two questions.
How much of the canvas is calm? Large uninterrupted areas — sky, water, a field — are quick and forgiving, and they are where you find your rhythm. Away From it All, Mountain Paradise and Guiding Light have plenty. Morning Ride has the least, which is why it takes the longest.
Where is the color? Rocky Mountain Campsite concentrates its color in one small warm area against a lot of gray rock, which some people find beautiful and others find a slog. Mountain Paradise spreads it across the whole picture. Neither is better; they are different evenings.
On the artwork
The reason these read as American rather than generic is that they are paintings by American landscape and wildlife painters, licensed as originals rather than assembled from stock imagery. Norlien, Hunter, Lambson and the others each paint a specific part of the country repeatedly and know it well, and that is visible in the finished canvas in a way that a generated design is not.
If you want the whole story of a place rather than a stand-in for it, that is the argument for a custom canvas from your own photograph — the family farm, the lake you go back to, the house somebody grew up in. As a gift
Three practical notes rather than sentiment.
- Let the picture do the work. These land best with someone who recognizes the kind of place, so choose for their life rather than for the theme. A farm scene for somebody who grew up on one beats a generic patriotic image every time.
- Framed is the better gift. It arrives pre-stretched on a wooden frame and is ready to hang the moment the paint dries, and includes a wooden tabletop easel. Unframed is the same design and paints for less, but it is trimmed close to the printed edge, so it suits mounting to a board rather than stretching.
- Take the larger size. The section count is identical at both sizes, so the smaller canvas is the harder painting, not the shorter one.

Do you sell a flag or military design?
No. The range is landscapes, wildlife, cabins and florals.
Which of these suits a complete beginner?
Mountain Paradise or Away From it All. Both have large calm areas and both are singled out by reviewers for legible numbering.
Which takes the longest?
Morning Ride, comfortably. The sea oats are a great many thin blades crossing each other, each its own numbered sliver.
Can I get more paint if a color runs out?
