In real life, oil painters often start with paint that has been thinned out a lot with solvent. Almost all of this first layer is just a wash of color mixing. Most of the time, the sky's the brightest part of the landscape, so let's start there. Use a big fan brush and put a lot of titanium white on it. Then use long, horizontal strokes to paint it. Don't worry about being perfect; this is just the first layer of paint. Now let's give the sky some color. Add ultramarine blue to the top of the sky with a smaller fan brush. Then, add a bit of alizarin crimson to the bottom of the sky. Last, mix the colors together with a clean brush. Paint Mountains
We'll go to the mountains next. Start by making a light gray color by adding a little bit of black to your titanium white. Then, use a big brush and long, horizontal strokes to paint the mountains.
